If you are thinking of moving to Querétaro, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Such as what are good neighborhoods in Querétaro, and what are the best parts of Querétaro to live in. Another thing you definitely need to keep in mind when you are moving to this beautiful city is; do you need a car in Querétaro? Knowing if you need a car in Querétaro can be a deciding factor to know if you want to live in this beautiful city.
Do you need a car in Querétaro to get around?
It is quite difficult for me to say if you need a car in Querétaro, as obviously, I don’t know where you are going to live. However, if you are going to live in the center of Querétaro, then there is enough to do within walking distance. Furthermore, Uber in Mexico is in general not that expensive, so you could always take an Uber if you need to do something out of the city center. If there are no Uber drivers available, it is also possible to take a DiDi, which is another application to get taxi drivers on demand. Unfortunately there is no Lyft available in Querétaro or Mexico.
What other methods of transport are available in Querétaro?
I have lived in Querétaro for the past year and a half or so, and I don’t even have a driver’s license and have still been to most places I wanted to go to. Querétaro has a lot of methods of transport to offer. These are the methods of transport you can use in Querétaro without any issues.
- Walking, Querétaro has a lot of its main attractions in the city center, so it’s quite easy to just walk around the city!
- Cycling, you can use a bicycle as well to get to most places. Sure, bicycling is not as often done as in the Netherlands, for example. However, there are still a lot of people who use their bikes to go from point A to B.
- Moped or motorcycle, a lot of people in Mexico use motorcycles as mopeds, they are not as expensive, and they usually cost around 18000 Mexican Pesos. Just make sure that you practice a bit, as Mexico is not known for its traffic safety.
- DiDi or Uber, as said earlier, DiDi and Uber are both apps that provide taxi services on demand. DiDi is usually cheaper than Uber, so if you can, download DiDi.
- Regular taxi, regular taxi has never been my favorite transport option, but they are available in Querétaro. Just expect to pay double or sometimes even triple the price of an Uber or DiDi.
- Public transport, there are a lot of bus stops in Querétaro, and you can take the bus from pretty much any place. I have only once taken the bus myself in Querétaro, but I remember being it extremely cheap.
- Private buses, just like any other reasonably big city in Mexico, Querétaro also has a main bus station. You can take private buses here to Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Tequisquiapan, Mexico City, and many more places all around Mexico.
As you can see, a car is definitely not a necessity in Querétaro, there are many other options available to get around. However, if you plan to live in one of the expat areas such as Juriquilla, it might be better to get a car. As these neighborhoods are suburbs and taking an Uber every day can get quite expensive. Do you need a car in Querétaro? No, not really, however, depending on what you are going to do in Querétaro, it might be nice!
