Selina Antigua – A Review
After we went to the Selina in Lake Atitlán, we went to Antigua. A small town which is a UNESCO Heritage Site, unfortunately when we arrived at our Airbnb, it wasn’t what we expected. Because we had a lot of fun in the Selina in Atitlán, we booked a stay at the Selina in Antigua. In this article, I am going to tell you my review and experience of the Selina in Atitlán. So, you can decide if this Selina is actually worth it.
Selina Antigua Room Review
Because we had to book last minute, there were unfortunately no more private rooms available at the Selina in Antigua, one of the best hostels in Antigua. However, this was not a big issue since the small shared room with 4 beds that we booked was actually quite nice. It was also nice because, for 3 out of 4 days that we stayed, there were no other people in our 4-bed dorm, making it essentially a private room for us. On the last day, a couple from Denmark arrived, and although they were very nice people, they were not the cleanest. However, that is not Selina’s fault, but probably more of an issue of staying in a shared room in a hostel. All in all, the shared bedroom was a nice experience. It also helped that the Selina staff cleaned the bedroom every day.
Selina Antigua Location Review
Antigua is an absolutely beautiful town, with a lot of beautiful architecture. Even the Starbucks, and the McDonald’s were some of the most beautiful I had ever seen. The McDonald’s even had an art gallery.
With all these beautiful buildings and this beautiful architecture, you would like to stay close to the center. Luckily for you, the Selina in Antigua is in the center of the town. It’s about a 5 to 10-minute walk to the main square of Antigua.
Impression of the Selina Antigua Hotel – Hostel
The Selina in Antigua is beautiful because this building is obviously also a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a historical building. When you get through the entrance, the first things you will see are rooms on the right side and traditional Guatemalan accessories on the left side.
After you walk through the hallway, the reception is on the left, and there is a field with hammocks in front of you. To the right, you will see a restaurant, with beer taps on the wall. The entrance of the restaurant is directly on the Selina property, but don’t get it confused, this is actually not the restaurant of Selina. I would also not recommend you to go, as there are places in Antigua where you can eat way better, way more, and for a lot less money.
When you pass this restaurant and don’t get convinced by its chatty owner, to eat and drink at his overpriced place, you actually get to the Selina restaurant. On the left side of the Selina Restaurant, there is a beautiful pool, and behind it, there are beautiful plants and nice spots to hang out. This Selina definitely has a unique vibe to it, compared to a general Selina.
Selina Antigua Coworking Review
Unlike the coworking space in Atitlán this coworking space was actually good, really good. The coworking space can be found on the right side of the property, just behind the restaurant and next to some beautiful avocado trees. Watch your head, though, as those avocados fall from rather high places, and one fell about an inch in front of me.
The coworking space consists of a lot of desks, a private meeting area, and even two soundproof boxes. Although the boxes are not very large, you could have meetings here without bothering anyone, and even record a podcast.
What are the benefits of staying in Selina Antigua?
There are a plethora of benefits to staying in Selina Antigua. Firstly, there is a high chance that you are surrounded by like-minded people, such as digital nomads, and people who like to travel often. Selina is a very well-known hostel chain for these types of people, so it might be easier to make friends. Another benefit if you are working from home, like us, is their coworking spaces, which make it so much easier to concentrate on your work and actually get your work done. Which for me, at least, can be difficult sometimes as I have issues concentrating, when there is a lot of noise around me, thanks to my ADHD.
Last, but not least, the Selina in Antigua has a wonderful building and a beautiful pool. Compared to other hotels that have pools and a reasonably good restaurant, Selina is definitely not expensive.

We have come to the end of this Selina Antigua review. So now there are just a couple of questions that are left to be answered. Is the Selina in Antigua worth your money?
