Me eating food in Querétaro

The Ultimate Guide to Typical Food from Querétaro!

Querétaro is an amazing city in central Mexico, with beautiful architecture and amazing nightlife. It also boasts some amazing restaurants. As someone who has lived in Querétaro for a year, and now lives in San Juan del Río, which is about an hour away, Querétaro will always have a place in my heart.

It might not be the most famous city in Mexico, but it is a great city to live in. Although Querétaro has some great restaurants, the city and region are not famous for its food. Most of the good restaurants in Querétaro will have typical food from other regions of Mexico. Luckily, there are still some dishes that Querétaro is famous for. Which leaves us with the question; what is a typical food in Querétaro?

What are the famous dishes of Querétaro, Mexico?

This list will not be very long, as I alluded to in the intro paragraph, Querétaro is not very famous for its food, unlike Guadalajara, which has loads of famous dishes, Querétaro doesn’t have as many.

Enchiladas Queretanas is probably the most famous dish from Querétaro. This is a delicious type of enchilada filled with chicken and has red sauce over it. If there is one must-try famous dish in Querétaro, this might be the one.

Gorditas de Migajas

Gorditas are one of my favorite Mexican dishes, and although gorditas can be found throughout the whole of Mexico, these typical Gorditas de Migajas are mostly eaten in Querétaro. You can put a whole variety of food in gorditas, however, the Gorditas de Migajas are made with typical pork crumbs mixed in the corn masa.

Guajolotes

Guajolotes are another typical dish from Querétaro, it is variation of a typical Mexican sandwich, the pambazo. It’s a type of bread that is filled with Mexican sour cream, cotija cheese, lettuce, and usually pork or chicken.

Torta de Tamale

This Mexican dish is a combination of two dishes, one is a torta, which is a kind of Mexican sandwich, usually filled with eggs, meat, avocado, tomato, and salsa. A tamale is a traditional Mexican dish made with corn-based dough that is filled with various meats or beans and cheese. Combine the two and you get a torta de tamale. I must say I have never tried this dish, but my fiancé, who is from Querétaro says this is one of the few good dishes from Querétaro.

Pozole de Rojo

Pozole is a Hispanic soup or stew made with hominy corn. The hominy is mixed with other ingredients such as pork or chicken, and other ingredients such as lettuce, radish, garlic, chili, avocado, lime, and onion. Pozole can also be found throughout Mexico, but Pozole Rojo is the most famous dish in Querétaro.
