Are there mosquitos in Querétaro, Mexico?

Querétaro is a beautiful region in Mexico with a lot of things to do and see. They have great cheese and wine, amazing restaurants, and beautiful architecture.  However, if you have seen any news about Mexico. You might know that Mexico has some mosquitos that carry diseases. So you might be wondering if there are mosquitos in Querétaro. 

Are there mosquitos in Querétaro? 

I have lived in Querétaro, and it can get extremely warm here, especially in summer, just like most warm places and cities, Querétaro does have a lot of mosquitos.

Some mornings, I have woken up with more than 20 mosquito bites all over my body. This is also because I often forget to put mosquito repellent on me. If you are looking for a way to protect yourself against mosquito repellent in Mexico, just walk into a drug store, or a large supermarket such as La Comer and ask for mosquito repellent. 

Are there dangerous mosquitos in Querétaro? 

I know you probably found this article because you heard about the mosquitos in Mexico carrying the dengue or the Zika virus. Do not worry, most of the cases of dengue and Zika are reported in the states in southeast Mexico, where the weather is more humid and where there is also jungle. Besides that, there were only 12 reported Zika cases in Mexico in 2022. All in all, there is no reason for you to worry about mosquito bites when you go to Querétaro. 

Are Zika and dengue deadly? 

Although Zika and dengue can both be fatal, there is a very low chance of passing away because a mosquito carrying one of the two diseases has bitten you. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be prepared when you visit regions that have a higher chance of dengue and Zika virus.

Can I travel to Querétaro despite mosquitos? 

You can travel perfectly safely to Querétaro, even if you are afraid to get bitten by mosquitos. There are a lot of things to do in this beautiful city, and there is a lot of great food from regions all over Mexico. Just make sure you get some mosquito repellent, even non-dangerous mosquito bites can be quite annoying, and there are a lot of non-dangerous mosquitos in Querétaro
